Why we exist

We believe that every family, individual and institution goes through seasons of challenge. With the right guidance, professional support and knowledge, every situation can find a path forward, and a journey toward healing, growth and happiness is possible.

Our mission

To improve the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities through psychosocial services.

Our vision

A society where individuals, families and communities live with hope, happiness and security, and have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

How we see people

People are shaped by their relationships and their surroundings, and by how well they can cope with both. That is why we look at the whole person: body, mind, family, community and culture.

Our work draws on theories of human development, behaviour and social systems. We use counselling, family therapy, clinical social work, group work and educational support, and we help people reach other services and resources in their community.

What you can expect from us

  • Integrity
  • Worth and dignity
  • Confidentiality
  • Empathy
  • Genuineness
  • Accountability

How we help

We work with couples, children, families and organizations. Each situation is assessed before any support begins.

Couple therapy

Also called marriage counselling. We help partners understand each other again and improve their relationship.

For married couples and partners in a committed relationship.

We can help with

  • Broken communication and mistrust
  • Feeling distant from one another
  • Intimacy and sexual difficulties
  • Alcohol or drug use affecting the relationship
  • Disagreements about managing money
  • Separation and divorce
  • Stress and parenting difficulties
  • Moving beyond family violence
  • Emotional distress, anxiety or depression
  • Grief and loss
  • The Couples Check-up: an assessment of your strengths and weaknesses in communication

Marriage preparation

Support for couples before they commit, so they enter marriage with clear expectations and a strong foundation.

For couples who are dating, engaged or planning to marry.

We help with

  • Learning about marriage before commitment
  • Getting to know each other through the dating process
  • Making the decision to marry
  • Planning and preparing the wedding

Child therapy

Our social workers and sociologists work gently with the child and those who care for them.

Often linked to

  • Parents' divorce or a new stepparent
  • Growing up in a single-parent home
  • The death of a parent or sibling
  • Homelessness
  • A parent's alcohol use
  • Physical or learning disabilities
  • Attention difficulties (ADHD)

Family therapy

One or more family members meet together to work through a difficulty that is affecting someone in the family.

  • A child or teenager getting into trouble
  • Conflict between parents and children
  • Conflict between brothers and sisters

Baby care services

Safe, attentive care for babies and young children, and training for the people who look after them.

For working parents and families who employ house helpers.

What we offer

  • Training house helpers for families
  • Training for parents in parenting and managing home life
  • Day care for babies until parents return home

Educational follow-up

A good school, good teachers and good books are important. Yet many children still struggle, drop out, or grow apart from their parents. We look at the child as a person, as part of a family, and as part of a community of friends and elders, to find out why.

Why do children fail despite every effort? Why do young people leave school? Why does the bond between parent and child break?
